Staying Safe During the Holiday Season

Posted 11-26-2020 by Theresa Stephens, RN

With the holidays rapidly approaching, Michiganders face many unique challenges keeping vulnerable relatives and friends safe while celebrating. As of the week of Thanksgiving, Kent County reports over 28,000 active cases of COVID-19 — with numbers for Michigan topping 314,000.

With cases on the rise, the Department of Health is imploring the residents of Michigan to stay home,  and stay safe. The spread of COVID-19 has increased as the weather has become cooler and people are spending more time indoors. Similarly, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is imploring citizens to only gather with family members who live in your home — to decrease transmitting the virus to people outside your family pod. The CDC is also asking that travel plans be postponed and for people to stay home to reduce the chances of contracting or spreading the COVID-19 virus.

At Pure Home Health Care, we understand that not seeing your family during the holidays is not ideal — but we also urge you to stay home and stay safe.

To help you celebrate the holidays safely, we’ve prepared some ideas for you, including:

  1. Visit and celebrate using video calls
  2. Turn your Thanksgiving meal into a picnic or backyard bash
  3. Help support local restaurants and order Thanksgiving to go
  4. Fill decorative bags with servings of Thanksgiving favorites to deliver safely to family and friends
  5. Virtual volunteering

If you cannot stay home, the CDC recommends that you wear a mask and stay six feet apart to decrease your chances of contracting or spreading the virus.

TheCDC website offers visitors a a COVID Data Tracker to assist in finding the most accurate and updated information to combat the spread of COVID-19. Similar, locally-focused information can be found on the Kent County Health Department website.

Pure Home Health Care believes that ‘Knowledge is Power’ and we continue to update our policies to meet the needs of the communities we serve.
